a moment of realisation, change and/or disruption

This entire process has been an exercise in how to grapple with disruption. Throughout, I have learnt from the local organisations I have been working with - food banks, schools and other community groups - and from the residency organisers and mentors; they have provided models for working through these moments of disruption with grace and resolve.

a moment of connection

During my intensive week of the residency, I felt incredibly lucky to meet the other residents and learn more about their projects. Their inspiring work and our nourishing conversations have provided ample motivation as I move to the next stage of my own project.

any tools / methods / resources to share

The Care Manifesto by Care Collective feels like a call to arms; an antidote for this period, which can only be described as a crisis of carelessness. I have also taken much from ruangrupa’s notion of lumbung - a sustainable curatorial methodology which harnesses “collectivity, resource building, and equal sharing.”

a question you are left with

As vaccines provide a pathway to the return to “normality,” we must question: what was it about the pre-pandemic world that we want to return to - and why? Because it is comfortable or because it is necessary? Our ability to honestly answer these questions will determine how we proceed in this post-pandemic world.

something you will carry forward

My project will continue after these ten weeks; I will carry forward the lessons from this residency throughout the next stages. And having seen the work of my peers and learnt from the mentors, I go forward more optimistic about the potential for our post-pandemic world.
