Sophie Minervini
My name is Sophie Minervini. I am a multidisciplinary artist from Glasgow, Scotland. I am currently in my third year studying sculpture and environmental art at Glasgow School of Art. I employ domestic crafts into my own work in an attempt to connect with women from the past.
I am a member of the Bold collective and Rumpus Room Glasgow where I aim to create relationships between underfunded communities and creative industries.

I am interested in exploring the relationship between human and non human and lately have been documenting the relationship between humans and our native greenery and landscape— something we are so disconnected from in Glasgow but has a deep root in our preindustrial history. I will be investigating the relationship between communities and nature through this residency and creating a publication about local foraging and natural dyeing to be shared with my community.

- The realisation of how privileged our art world is in Scotland has given me new appreciation for those who continue to create and teach on bare bone budgets and little resources. This realisation has encouraged me to pour this “art money” into other underfunded causes.

- I am still left questioning how I can create meaningful change through art which is not self-serving and how to avoid the need to create a final product, a white box worthy piece of work.

- I will carry forward the ideas from The Interdependance talk, we can take advantage of the money currently being funnelled into the art scene to fund projects that benefit underfunded communities, exchanging goods for a higher rate in order to give free resources to those who need them.
