Miguel Amado

I am a curator and a critic, currently director of SIRIUS, an arts centre in Cobh, County Cork, Ireland.
I have been building a ‘deviant’ vision of curating informed by the ‘usological turn’ that contributes to the creation of a ‘commonist’ politics/aesthetics: a civic practice that advocates a social role for art and its institutions, aiming to (re)position them as agents of change.

Most of my activity informed by this approach took place at Middlesbrough Institute of Modern Art in England, where I once worked. I am now trying to implement these principles in my new context, Cork City and the eastern part of Cork County, through my work at SIRIUS.
