ABOUT
- a moment of realisation, change and/or disruption

I’d been walking and observing for a while. And realised I need to walk. To lose myself. To appreciate the little things. For a short time, I questioned the observing. Was it ethical? What did it mean to have a socially engaged practice, through lurking? But it’s a valid process. And we can share it.

- a moment of connection

The intensive week of the residency, while remote, provided much needed time for connecting with one another. Talking, sharing, listening, responding, learning. Together. I will treasure the experience. And having my work blind-critiqued, but resonate my intentions so clearly, meant everything. To speak, and be truly heard.

- any tools / methods / resources to share

To be resident. Here. Through these streets. Walk. Make note. Count the steps. Follow. And feel. Look around you. Observe. Take notice of the tiny details. Imagine. Explore. Take a closer look. Make a mark. The walls talk. Listen. And respond. A word. Or a sign. To belong here. And to be. Strangers. In this place. Coming together. We walk. And pass eachother by. Here. To be resident.

- a question you are left with

Thinking about notions of inviting/hosting and the power-dynamics of the artist-participant relationship. How do we include everyone who wants to be included? How to invite someone in on their own terms? How might we share, generously, with an active and a passive other? How can we programme for the lurkers?

- something you will carry forward

The process of action research as one which is slow, engaged, deliberate, sustained, investigative, emotional, meaningful and on-going. The role of the action researcher as both embodied and embedded. And a journey without a clear destination, wherein all the significance lies in the walk to get there.
