Chiara De Maria
I'm an artist, educator and curator in the field of visual arts. As artist I move between site-specific photographic installations, video performances, artistic documentaries and collages. In my artistic research I deal with themes that treat a social urgency starting from the study of the human body: the gender identity, abuse and consent in relationships, eating disorder, and the link between the human being and nature.

During this residency I would like to focus on "the greenery project" which is aimed at the idea to re-discover the identity connection between us and the native plants belonging to the area in which we live.
What if we imagine the plants as our relatives, as part of our origins instead of perceiving the vegetation as something detached from us?

As a curator of an association that promotes debate and research in the visual arts I would like to learn and report new ideas, strategies and tools to focus on a socially active curatorial/artistic practice.

- The first moment of revelation and change was the 08/05/2021 - The interdependence made me think that the project I was building was missing a piece: the one dedicated to children! So I went back to design the project focused on all the groups age in the community.

-  Moment of connection: The comparison of what we eat at breakfast and where it comes from was strong, it triggered a reflection of deep connection within the group.

- What will be the seed that will remain growing within the community at the end of The Greenery Project?

- What I will carry forward are The moments in which I felt connected to others, so far away in the world from me, but all asking very similar questions and recognizing common social urgencies.
When you think of triggering a change and you’re lonely, the strength of your gesture is small. When you feel that so many others in the world at the same time are trying to trigger a change, then you feel your strength become great. Grazie di cuore
